Hastings Public Schools Student Art Show

March 18 - April 8, 2008

March is National Youth Art Month and the Hastings Museum is honoring our local artists in the public schools by hosting this year’s Hastings Public Schools Art Show. Started in 1961, Youth Art Month was created by the Art and Creative Materials Institute, a non-profit association of art and craft materials manufacturers, in cooperation with the National Art Educators Association. Today, Youth Art Month is observed each year in March. The program is carried out by a number of groups interested in developing the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs.

Art education is important to our youth because it not only develops their creative talents; it also builds self-esteem, offers ways to express themselves, and develops critical thinking skills. Hastings Public Schools participates in the program each year and show cases two pieces of student art from each grade in a public show. This year’s show will be at the museum from March 18 through April 8, and will include two and three dimensional works. Please visit the museum during this time to see the creative talent of our local youth.
